Sara then took us to visit the Heidelburg project, a long standing public art project where Tyree Guyton has been working for over 25 years to transform abandoned buildings in his neighborhood into works of art. This was really an amazing area – Dr Seuss in the middle of an empty part of the city, as Sara said. It’s a point of pride for Detroit, and Sara said she comes by ans checks out the area every few months as it’s continually being reworked and remade. Her first visit was with her parents at eight years old, and groups of school children were there during our visit. The ability for art to change and define an area was really evident here.

Thank you so much Sara for a wonderful afternoon!
