Our next stop was one that several people had sent in a suggestion for: Pyramid Atlantic. I contacted them about visiting and received several enthusiastic emails in reply encouraging me to stop by during the various events they have going on this week.
We arrived on Thursday night and their bi-monthly societies in print and paper were happening. We met Caroline Record, the papermaking intern who was preparing for the next day’s papermaking workshop. When we told her about our trip and what we were looking for, she graciously volunteered to show us around.
We then bumped into Marty Ittner, Pyramid’s screen printing associate, who showed us more of the printmaking facilities and the letterpress equipment. She also talked to us about the various groups that Pyramid works with and some of its projects, including the Pyramid Atlantic Book Arts fair.
We talked to a few more people before heading out for the evening, deciding to come back during the day during some of the workshops going on. At this time, we also got to meet Gretchen Schermerhorn, Pyramid Atlantic’s Artistic Director.
Gretchen talked more about the programs that Pyramid facilitates for the local community and the different groups that come in to use the shop, from the interns to associates to artists in residents to their amazing art gym program. There were two big groups having a lot of fun (papermaking and printmaking), and so we hung around for a bit before moving on to D.C. itself.
Thank you so much ladies for showing us around! We had a blast and loved seeing the center. until next time–

We are so glad you stopped by. Thanks for the blogpost and mention of the Book Arts Fair. Keep in touch.
