Red Trillium Press

Steve Daiber of Red Trillium Press invited us to see his studio in Northamptom, MA and discuss his international book arts projects in Cuba.
Steve has been going to Cuba for ten years and collaborating with printmakers there to make books about Cubans’ various cultural struggles. He has brought book arts to an area where it can be difficult to even import materials, and building continuous presence of this art form there is quite an accomplishment. In particular, Steve showed us a long-developing three part series on the subjects of power, privacy, and (forthcoming, appropriately enough) waiting.

He also discussed his personal work and how it has been influenced by his travels to Cuba. Many of his books use Cuban maps and atlases as palimpsets in combination with his interests in wildlife and nature.

unfortunately, I am restricted to catching up by phone post at the moment, and so I can’t caption the photos right now, but I’m sure you can see that it is really exciting and ground breaking work being made.
