Big Ups to Jenny Garnett and Erin Wommack! Jenny is a colleague at Columbia College Chicago and a native of Roanoke, VA. When she heard I was passing through she hooked me up with a huge list of places to visit, and even found us a place to stay at her friend Erin’s house while Erin went to D.C. (Basically, we switched places). Talk about generosity and trust!
and while we didn’t get to meet with anyone I was planning to, we still relaxed and had a great time in Roanoke, including:
An adventure to Thelma’s Chicken and Waffles, where google sent us to their old demolished location first, which gave us a temporary heartbreak:

before we found the delicious, delicious Chickens&Waffles:

Then we went to the Virginia Museum of Transportation, one of Matt’s favorite stops. Hilariously enough, he has a t-shirt from this museum that is probably bordering 10 years, but has never been. He had a good time. I also got to see some beautiful old cars (a love of mine, even though I know very little about cars):

and almost pass out from the heat. (seriously y’all, I couldn’t tell if I was going to faint/throw up/having a migraine/etc for a while, and starting making some really crazy cognitive leaps I don’t even know where to begin to try to explain).
so instead we decided the rest of the time should be relaxing and watching movies with the cutie pie Moxie (kinda a black blur on the couch, but a super cute puppy):

and then we wandered town a bit before heading out to Asheville.

thanks so much Jenny, Erin, and Roanoke! we had a great time!
