I have not kept on the schedule of one-posting-each-day.  while I’ve had a post *for* every day, it hasn’t exactly been on that day…  in any case, yesterday, on the 21st, I updated my hooray map and brainstormed.  I generally have more ideas than I can do anything with, and I reckon that if I can get a quarter of what I want to accomplish done, I’m doing pretty good…. however, this means I end up running off with a new train of thought before I can often finalize the last.

Part of the reason I’m keeping this blog is to remind myself to better tie up my ideas; to fully flesh them out; to document and present them to the best of my abilities…before another idea runs away with me.   I’ve got a lot of ideas coming now and in the future and I want to do them right!  any suggestions for this organization would be helpful.

as is, my to-do list stands the same:

-document and finish up my hooray project (I did get to the end of the green line on tuesday, in any case!);  this is mostly what I’m working on now, as it’s the closest to completion and what I have the most thoughts on at the moment.

but in the future:

-document and expand on my gifting project (which is a lot more tangled up in my current and ongoing work and isn’t yet reaching a year old on its starting point)

-which will move into my couchsurfing roadtrip community art center visiting extravaganza…

-keeping track of stray ideas and typing up things for potential thesis-project tie-ins (sounds cheesy but goes much farther outside of academia, with any luck)

I realize generally that those coming to this blog are currently getting the messiest bits; hopefully, by the time I send this out to those who can be of most assistance in the future (like for visiting arts centers this summer), I will be done with back-explaining everything and can just move on to what might be the most relevant for you folks.

thanks for sticking around this far though.  :)

I haven’t written much about the experience of presenting, though, admittedly, it was really very simple and easy, especially for a first time — my excerpt was only a 3-minute statement out of a 30 minute presentation, and I did not, in fact, break the computer.  What we were presenting was our experiences with a survey of artist books at the Joan Flasch Collection at SAIC and how it influenced our work.  In particular, I wrote about my experience with my Hooray project and the zine I made for it, partially inspired by the Flasch collection.  I think overall our presentation was a good survey of how people take in influences in a setting, and the class itself was a wonderful experience–I’m excited about visiting and taking in more resources in the future.

The text of my presentation is below; it varies from my general Hooray! zine description in that I am pointing out specific influences in the Flasch collection.

and now I’ve gotten that done

aka my first toe-dip into the world of conference presenting, which was nowhere as frightening as I set myself up for it (I know I know, I’m just a panic-y person…) and I actually learned a fair amount from my fellow Reading the Artist Book student’s presentations (even though they were prerecorded).

I don’t feel that it’s particularly fair that I discuss the conference panels and what I got from them yet (as I’m still tired and surely will leave a lot out at the moment–again, I’ll add this to my to-do and you will read more in the forthcoming week!*)  but I’m glad I the opportunity to present about my Hooray project and its zine (even if what I presented and my project’s entirety is not on here yet!).

then, to prove that I am not merely procrastinating on writing– directly after our panel, I ran upstairs and updated my resume and artist statement, wrote a project statement for my Hooray zine, and formatted some photos to send in to a call for art riiiight before going down to the conference banquet.  :)

conference banquet

*not gonna lie, I took excellent and plentiful notes and have a lot of ideas–you’ll be hearing from me tomorrow for sure!

**also in the future I will NOT be waiting until 11.30pm each night to be making my daily posting/musing/project writing etc but…this is where I’m at.  I’m getting there.  :D
